Skilled Working Visas

Many industries are currently experiencing skill shortages and it’s an excellent time to make your skilled migration application!

Skilled overseas workers who wish to apply for a skilled visa might be eligible. The occupations in shortage include but are not limited to: Engineers, IT professionals, nurses, teachers, architects, accountants, tradespeople, diverse types of professionals and scientists.

A number of pathways exists and are based on a points test. Points are determined by diverse factors such as:

  • age
  • qualifications
  • work experience
  • English language ability
  • Australian Study
  • Nomination from an Australian State or Territory
  • etc…

SkillSelect is the online system managing the Expressions of Interest received and regulating the demand to ensure that there is no saturation with the occupation ceilings in place.

Skilled Working visas overview:

189 – Independent Skilled Visa (Permanent)

To apply for this visa:

  • your occupation must be on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
  • you must have a total of 60 points
  • you must meet the visa requirements

190 – Skilled Nominated Visa (Permanent)

To apply for this visa:

  • your occupation must be on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL)
  • you must have a total of 60 points
  • you must be sponsored by a State or Territory
  • you must meet the visa requirements

489- Skilled Regional Visa (Provisional)

2 pathways

1. State or Territory sponsorship
To apply for this visa:

  • your occupation must be on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL)
  • you must have a total of 60 points
  • you must be sponsored by a State or Territory to live in a regional area
  • you must meet the visa requirements.

OR

2. Relative sponsorship
To apply for this visa:

  • your occupation must be on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
  • you must have a total of 60 points
  • you must be sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area
  • you must meet the visa requirements
